A historic restaurant in the city of Trieste, since 1966 the Al Bagatto restaurant has been offering fish-based cuisine that has innovated with refinement and sophistication.

We are located a few steps from the sea, in the heart of the beautiful city of Trieste.

We welcome our guests in a place rich in history, traditions of good food, with exciting food and wine routes full of flavour.

Our aim has always been to offer the best in every detail.

Passion and attention to detail turn every dish into a pleasant surprise, first for the eyes and then for the palate.

Our cuisine is linked to the territory and to fish in particular, but we also make room for meat and vegetarian dishes in order to always offer our guests an alternative.

A surprising welcome

A small, elegant restaurant in the city centre decorated in warm colours.
forty covers spread over three rooms:

  • the “Maison”, the main room for a maximum of 26 people in a warm and refined setting
  • the “Cantina”, an intimate and convivial environment ideal for groups or families for a maximum of 30 people
  • the “Privée”, a private and intimate room, with only one table for a maximum of 4 people, for those who want to spend a quiet evening

The restaurant is very nice and cosy, and the food is really good, with top-quality ingredients treated in the best possible way. As a restaurateur I really appreciated the interpretation of refined cuisine, but at the same time linked to tradition.

Lovely food and service We had the tasting menu. It was delicious on every course and the wine pairing worked brilliantly, the service was fantastic and all reasonably priced for such high quality food. I’d highly recommend booking here if you’re in Trieste.

La perfezione Ho prenotato questo ristorante nonostante alcune recensioni negative che davvero stento a capire. Una delle cene migliori della mia vita e dire che frequento ottimi ristoranti. Il risotto ai frutti di mare, il migliore mai assaggiato: cotto al punto giusto, saporito ma non troppo salato, con un’armonia di sapori unica. Menzione anche al cavolfiore con tartufo e alla zuppa di aragosta. Grazie a Isa che ci ha serviti con competenza e sorriso.

Memorable meal in Trieste I am travelling solo and was ready for a lovely meal. This place did not disappoint. From the complimentary entree of an octopus mousse to my choices of lobster soup and grilled linguine with cuttlefish, the culinary experience was memorable. The staff are attentive without being arrogant or officious.

Ein wunderschöner Abend im Al Bagatto. Wir haben konsequent Fisch gegessen, nicht das Menü, sondern individuell gewählt. Alles war erstklassig, der Service überragend. Die Preise sehr fair, keine Ahnung, wie sie das mit dem sehr kleinen Lokal machen. Ganz besonders war jedoch der Risotto mit Austern. Letztere leicht angewärmt durch das nachträgliche Auflegen auf den warmen Risotto. Klasse ! Ein netter „Gag“ auch die in Leder geschlagene Dessertkarte. Reserviert, es ist ausgebucht.

Sehr gutes Essen, toll angerichtet und gut serviert! Das Thunfischtartar fantastisch, Risotto sehr lecker, dazu ehrlich guten Wein für einen fairen Preis.
